70000 Ogun Residents To Get Free Healthcare for a Year: Health Insurance

The Ogun State Government has significantly expanded its healthcare access initiatives, offering free health insurance and surgical interventions to 70,000 residents for a one-year period.

This announcement, made by Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), underscores the government’s commitment to improving healthcare affordability and utilization within the state. The program offers a comprehensive approach to healthcare access. Enrolled individuals will benefit from coverage under the state’s health insurance scheme, enabling them to receive necessary medical services without significant out-of-pocket expenses.

Furthermore, the program integrates Governor Dapo Abiodun’s free surgical intervention initiative, providing access to essential surgeries at no additional cost to registered patients. The program’s initial implementation has yielded positive results. Since March 2024, over 1,000 surgical procedures have been successfully completed, exceeding projected patient numbers.

Dr. Dosunmu acknowledged that some patients may require additional evaluation prior to surgery due to pre-existing medical conditions. These individuals will be appropriately referred for further care and receive surgical interventions when deemed medically necessary.

To ensure optimal program utilization, OGSHIA encourages all eligible residents to collect their health insurance cards. These cards serve as a key to accessing the program’s benefits, including free medical consultations and surgical procedures throughout the one-year enrollment period. Dr. Dosunmu highlighted the importance of card collection, noting that a significant number remain unclaimed.

OGSHIA urges residents to contact the agency to claim their cards and take full advantage of this comprehensive healthcare program. The Ogun State Government’s investment of N900 million in this program demonstrates its dedication to achieving universal health coverage within the state. This initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare access for vulnerable populations and contribute to a healthier and more resilient Ogun State.
